I am an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics/TESOL in the English and Modern Languages Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. I held a previous assistant professor position at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. I completed my Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. My M.A. in TESL was completed at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and my B.A. in English was completed at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. I am a California native from San Luis Obispo. I am a lover of languages. My most used second language is French; I have also been a learner of Japanese and Spanish, and I am currently learning Italian.
My research interests are in second language speech and pronunciation, second language acquisition, individual differences, speech perception and production, speech assessment, speech and pragmatics, methodological issues in speech research, and TESOL. I am particularly interested in the the speaker-listener interaction and how communication success is impacted by variance in second language speech production and listener perception.
I have posted some personal photos of some of my favorite places around my site--enjoy!
